Q: Why does Ford Motor Corp. have to suck up to American Idol winners to sell cars?
Being a business major, I understand the importance of a solid marketing department. But using Taylor Hicks to hock Ford cars and trucks? Come on!
Ford INVENTED the automobile. The company should have Taylor Hicks crawling on his hands and knees to it! This is a sad testament to how crappy American cars are perceived. If Ford needs gimimcs like this to move its inventory off the lots, it's in pretty bad shape. That gray-haired dolt from Alabama (or wherever) is not going to save the company.

Q: Why does Ford make such lousey cars for the American market?
In Europe, Ford makes cars like the Ka, even if its small its kinda kool looking. The other cars that Ford sells over seas and in Central and South American seem to do well. Why doesn't Ford start making cars that are good on gas, are reliable and nice looking here in the states?
A: Well being a car design student, trust me.. the designers always come up with cool stuff. However Ford executives say no to this and yes to that. When a car doesn't sell, they are stuck with the tooling which costs billions. So the only option is to make another new car, but with the same tooling and chassis. The best they can do is change the outer shell of the car. But the proportions will be the same from a previous model. It's simple business, but if a car doesn't sell... they have to make do with the expensive tooling and machinery spend. It's like a catch 22. GM is having problems too with that.
Small cars... well ford is always the last to follow a trend, but in general most people would probably rather buy a used car than a Ka. Who knows. I can't stand small cars, but I hate big SUV's too. I'm 6' 2'' so small cars are crampy for a guy like me. Plus people in general want SUV's for safety and trucks to haul the toys and dirt bikes.
I think the reason the Ka sells in Europe is that cars are probably more expensive out there. Plus people are not as materialistic about cars as we are, so we have to have cool cars. Most Americans will go to great lengths to own a cool car for the image. It's what we grew up on. I was in Australia this past month and most people drive basic Toyota Corolla's and Civic's. Cars out there are more expensive, so people just buy the minimum to get form point A to point B.
Ford is just in trouble, and I will never buy a car form them. The only American car I will buy is a Jeep Wrangler.
To sum it up, it's executive politics. Be careful what you ask for! You want a Ford that looks cool, good gas, and reliable.... but it'll cost ya!

A: easy - they both have different 'equipment levels'. they will look the same on the outside though.
i can tell you that the trio is always a three door and i'm pretty sure it's the entry level/base model.

I drive a '97 Ford T-bird with 108,877 miles on it,A/C cold as alaska,original motor and trans. I have no major problems with my car,I drive 37 miles round trip to and from work everyday,so it's my daily driver. I work in an Acura dealership fixing Acuras. Mostly transmissions on TL's and MDX. If Fords suck, why am I able to drive to work everyday to go fix Acuras that are broken? And no because I'm a mechanic doesn't mean I fix my car. I haven't touched my car other than change the oil regularly.

We've just always drove the car in overdrive. I'm afraid of what will happen if we don't.

American cars are junk compared to Foreign ones but looking at the prices I see that Honda Accord is considerably higher than a Ford Focus and a Chevy pick up is about 26000 brand new compared to the Nissan titan which is well over 30000.

A: I have no idea what the hell your talking about.
1. You ask why people compare higher priced cars like the Accord to the Taurus....Um....The Taurus is actually about 3,000-4,000 more than the Accord.
2. I normally hear people compare the Ford Fusion to the Honda Accord, not the Ford Taurus or the Focus.
3. Nissan Titans are competitively priced, they start at about $26,000.
And 4. No, they shouldn't.
Q: Do older cars, In particular a 84 Ford LTD need to be hooked up to the alternator for the fuel to pump?
i have a 84 Ford LTD. My car cranks but the fuel is not praying in the carborater but fuel is getting to the carborator. Currently the alternator is not on my car. Does my car or all older model cars need to be hooked up to the alternator so the fuel pump to have enough power to pump the fuel with enough force so it can spray in the carborater?
A: it maybe be possible that it has to be hooked up to make all the power connections it needs to fire but that depends if it has an electric fuel pump or not
Q: In earlier Ford cars why is a 351 Windsor prefered over a 351 Cleveland motor?
A: Not true!!! I think the Cleveland is prefered because of the horsepower.The Windsor is easier to build and find parts for.
My 69 Mach1 has a 1971 Cleveland in it.I got most of my engine parts from Summit Raceing.The 4-V heads on a Cleveland are HUGE!!! A Windsor is in the 289,302 family.
I'll take a Cleveland over a Windsor anyday!!
Q: What is the quality of Ford cars?
I had a Taurus in the 1990s and it was ok. Generally, Fords are total junk. I had a '75 Pinto and this pos rusted out completely in about 2 years. Also Ford Pintos exploded and burned the passengers to death when rear-ended. Ford Explorers used to roll over and crush the occupants to death. Ford denied these charges and didnt care that design defects killed hundreds of people. Ford is a pos. company with pos cars and will go under in 5 years. The Ford employees are fat, lazy brainless slobs. Good riddance to Ford!!!!
A: Quality is job one, until the car is about 5 years old and everything is off warranty, then they typically fall apart.
Despite leading the nation in car sales (Taurus from 1992-1996) there are relatively few Taurus' on the road. Very few Mystic, and Countour twins compared to similar-sized: Grand Am's from GM.
I don't think that their quality is necessarily that much worse than a Chrysler or GM (though it is worse than Toytota, Nissan and Honda). But Ford's have a penchant for being decent and then just going to hell in mid-life.
Ford's tend to have more nagging problems instead of building one car that a self-destructing engine (Intrepid) or Engines that constantly have their manifolds collapse (Impala).
Q: Why Ford cars have a reputation for being troublesome?

A: Because they historically have been crappier. I don't know what the newest models are like, though.
